What is International Greyhound Planet Day?
The Greyhound, one of the most ancient of breeds,
has had a remarkably colourful history, starting with its role
as a supreme hunting dog, its changing role as a coursing dog,
to its current status as track racing dog, show dog and loving
companion. The Greyhound is possibly the forerunner of a breed
of canines belonging to the "sight-hound" family, and is
undoubtedly the best known of the breed.
is a time chosen
each year to honor the greyhound and its relatives (galgos,
lurchers, etc.) throughout the world. The purpose of this
international event is to raise the public's awareness of the
wonder and magic of greyhounds as pets, educate others on the
current status of greyhounds around the world and to honor those
greyhounds who have already left us.
How can you participate?
Come and join the fun, chat with other
participants, enjoy a bite to eat and get a start on your
Christmas shopping for friends and family.
Who can attend?
This event is for anyone who’d like to attend,
and doggies of all kinds are welcome.
Please note: canine attendees must be on lead at
all times. No extendable leashes will be allowed for the safety
of all participants.
Who am I helping?
Funds raised will help to support the adoption
program of the Greyhound Supporters (National Capital Region).
